SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The impressive aircraft outside the Hill Air Force Base Museum may attract attention, but the elements are taking their toll.
That has museum officials looking to the Legislature for help.
The Aerospace Heritage Foundation of Utah is asking a legislative appropriations committee for seven (M)million dollars to expand the museum so aircraft can be brought inside.
Rex Hadley is chairman of the foundation and says years of rain, wind, heat and cold are hurting the historical aircraft.
He says the B-29 is badly corroded and in danger of collapsing under its own weight.
To expand the museum's show floor by nearly 150-thousand square feet would cost 14 (M)million dollars. But an unnamed foundation has already pledged seven (M)million dollars toward the project.
The legislative committee voted unanimously to add the project to its priority list.
