John Daley ReportingAn accident on I-15 northbound today stalled traffic for several miles and created a backup for several miles. It happened this morning at 2100 South in Ogden.

A semi truck from Knight Trucking crossed the solid white fog line and struck a crash divider separating the 2100 South exit to the main flow of I-15. The gas tank of the semi ruptured, spilling fuel on the shoulder of the road and engulfing the vehicle in flames and requiring a quick repair job by UDOT crews.

UHP Sgt. Paul Kotter said, "The fire quickly spread to the trailer, which was hauling produce and groceries, and it basically burned the whole load. I think the driver just went over the white line; he didn't stay in his lane."

UDOT Spokesman, Nile Easton, says, "We came in with some of our equipment and scraped off the top layers to see how deep that went. And as we went in, it just kept biting in and in and you could tell it had burned through a good five inches. So what we do now is come in, we lay down some oil and then we'll put in a temporary patch."

The driver was wearing a seatbelt and escaped that burning vehicle. He was treated at the scene. The road reopened about 4:00.
