CHINO, Calif. (AP) -- California authorities say a 1-year-old boy was shot and killed by his father, a West Valley City, Utah, man who was showing a gun to a relative when it went off.

The boy's father, 26-year-old Jose Silva, was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter.

The boy was in a car seat inside a sport utility vehicle early Saturday when he was shot.

A bullet went through the back seat and hit him. He was taken by helicopter to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A sibling of the boy was also in the vehicle but was not hurt.

Silva was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

Police say the family was visiting relatives in Chino.
