Sam Penrod ReportingProvo police say charges could be coming soon in the death of a five-month old baby. Police are offering few details in the case, but will confirm that they do believe the little five-month old boy's death resulted from some type of abuse.
The boy was taken to a babysitter's home by his parents on January 4th. Later, the babysitter called 911 because the child was not breathing. Paramedics performed CPR and revived the baby, who was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center, where he died the next day.
Doctors discovered brain injuries and police began investigating. Police will not be specific whether the babysitter or if family members are under investigation, and say more information will be released if criminal charges are filed.
Capt. Rick Healey, Provo Police Dept.: "We do believe that there is enough information right now to know there was trauma to the baby's head, and the injuries to the head caused the death."
Police say they are waiting for final reports from the medical examiner and plan to turn it over to prosecutors. Typically in cases like this, child abuse homicide charges would be filed.
