WEST VALLEY CITY -- Police arrested five people in connection with a robbery at a West Valley convenience store.
Officers driving by the Maverik at 3112 S. Redwood Road around 1:30 a.m. saw an abandoned van in a nearby vacant parking lot. Two men ran to the van, jumped in and it drove away. Police chased the van and eventually arrested three adults and two teens.
Officers say the five were involved in robbing the Maverik store.
"Some money was taken, a clerk was assaulted, and some food items were taken, as well," said Lt. Kent Stokes with the West Valley City Police Department.
He says the clerk was not hurt but was pushed out of the way as the group took money out of the register.
The adults were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on felony robbery charges.
