Gene Kennedy reporting For everyone heading to work today, two important reminders: Be aware of black ice, and clear the frost from your windshield.
One man learned overnight how scary it can be if you drive with too much frost on your windshield. As he made his way through downtown with his view blocked, he lost control of his car and hit a large median near 300 South 400 West.
The car flipped. He hung inside, upside down, his seat belt strapping him in. Speed wasn't a factor. It was simply the frost on the windshield.
The man suffered only minor injuries, but paramedics still had to take him to the hospital.
And four people were taken to the hospital after a multiple car crash in Lambs Canyon off I-80 last night. Fortunately no one was seriously injured, but there were five wrecks, total. Two of them were rollovers, and all were a result of black ice.
Capt. Bee Putnam, Unified Fire Brigade: "The roads look dry, but they're not."
The chain of crashes forced emergency crews to shut down the lefthand lanes in both directions on I-80. That snarled traffic heading through the pass last night.
Road crews laid down some extra sand after those accidents. Still, motorists are advised to take it slowly as you head to work this morning.
