LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON — A couple of small avalanches Friday afternoon prompted the closure of Little Cottonwood Canyon Road.
One of the slides happened in the White Pine area; another in the Hellgate area near Snowbird. Nobody was injured, but it took crews nearly three hours to get the road cleared and reopened to traffic.
Snow surveyors say while these avalanches were natural, they have done more avalanche control in the canyon this year than in past because of the excessive amount of snow the Wasatch Mountains have received.
