FILLMORE -- We asked our viewers on Facebook to recommend small-town businesses and restaurants found throughout the state. Response was huge.

Several people insisted we check out Cluff's Carhop Café at 270 N. Main Street in Fillmore, a family business passed down through three generations. The food is homemade with no additives.

Customer Randy "Todd" Purcell said, "We stop here every time we come through. It's got the old, small-time atmosphere."

Owner Gayle Cluff said, "We want to see that you have a good time and some good food here. That's what business is about."

Cluff's employees peel 100 pounds of potatoes a day to make French fries. The café's specialty drinks are also a hit, like the raspberry fresh lime and the "iron port," which is somewhat of a mix of a root beer and cream soda.

Advertising is all by word of mouth, and apparently that word has spread. About 40 percent of customers are from out of town.

Viewers also told us to stop at the Cache Valley Cheese store at 330 W. 300 South in Beaver.

No longer affiliated with the Cache Valley area, it makes fresh cheese in Beaver five days a week, so the product is never more than a couple of days old.

The store has become quite the tourist destination. Tour buses actually stop here and 95 percent of its customers are I-15 drivers who don't mind going a couple of minutes out of their way to stock up on treats.

The ice cream is so popular that it sells just as well in the winter as in the summer.
