SALT LAKE CITY -- It's a tough reality -- not every child in Utah lives in a happy family environment. There are dozens of kids in foster care, waiting to be adopted.

That's where we hope to help.

We're proud to announce that KSL is now the home of Wednesday's Child. KSL is partnering with the Adoption Exchange to profile some special kids who are looking for permanent homes.

Child Profile
Steven
Birthday: 08/1996
Age: 14
Grade in School: 8th
Special Interests: Science, reading, Star Wars
With an enormous and creative imagination, it is no wonder Steven has such a love for reading, especially about Star Wars and science. Between collecting rocks and learning as much as possible about science, this young man has great potential for his future. His dream, however, is to someday become a helicopter pilot. Playing card games, video games and watching movies are other activities Steven finds enjoyable. Steven loves animals, especially dogs.

We'd like to introduce you to 14-year-old Steven. He's a young man of few words, but he's very bright and is passionate about two things. One of those subjects: the "Star Wars" franchise.

"I know pretty much everything there is to know about Star Wars," he said.

Steven's other passion is helicopters. In fact, Steven wants to be a pilot when he grows up, so KSL hooked him up with a private flying lesson in Chopper 5 with pilot Ben Tidswell.

As they soared over the mountain peaks and the valley floor of the Wasatch Front, Steven talked about his life.

The only thing that has remained constant for this teenager is change. He entered the foster care system at age 4. When asked how many different foster homes he's been in, Steven answered, "So many I lost track."

Because of that, he says, he's learned resilience.

"Oh, I've gotten used to it, it's just life. It's my life," he said. "I just keep moving on."

He's also learned confidence -- confidence enough to take the reins of Chopper 5 for a moment.

Then it was back down to solid ground for Steven, and back to reality. But this was surely a flight he'll never forget.

The goal for Wednesday's Child is to find permanent families for great kids -- including Steven.
