(KSL News)--Two teenagers in juvenile detention were supposed to be working in a park, instead they reportedly snuck away and robbed a home.
Police say the teens, 14 and 17-years old, have long criminal histories.
They were working at the Salt Lake County Equestrian Park in South Jordan when they walked away.
They went to a house near 2500 West and 107th South where they found an open window. They popped out the screen and ransacked the home, stealing hundreds of dollars worth of items, including an iPod and a camera.
They changed into the homeowner's clothes, then tried to get away in his pickup truck. As they were backing out of the garage, the homeowner came home and put his car in the way to stop them. The teens ran into the second car, then slammed into a tree.
The homeowner grabbed the driver, who punched him in the nose. The passenger got away, but police found him hiding in a barn.
