ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Alex Jensen, who played for Rick Majerus at Utah, was hired as an assistant by his former coach.

Majerus, who took over at Saint Louis University earlier this year, announced the hiring Monday. It will be Jensen's first coaching position.

"Alex is a student of the game and court smart," Majerus said. "He will bring those attributes to his coaching. Alex's passion for the game will be evident to the players, and one day he will lead a big-time program."

Jensen began his playing career at Utah in 1994-95, took two years off for a church mission, then played from 1997 to 2000. He ranks 20th on Utah's all-time scoring list with 1,279 points and is sixth on the team's career rebounding list with 896.

After his college career, Jensen spent seven seasons playing professionally in Turkey and also played for Yakima in the CBA.
