SALT LAKE CITY — It was a moment of truth Monday for Kenny Clayton.

He made a bet with his University of Utah friends to motivate him to lose weight. His New Year's resolution was to lose 50 pounds in just 100 days.

With excitement, he stepped up onto the scale. It was weigh-in time.

“Here we are 100 days later and I lost 53 pounds,” Clayton said. “My goal was that if I didn't lose at least 50 pounds, I'd have to burn my BYU sports stuff and become a Utah fan for the rest of the year.”

Looks like he’ll be keeping all that blue attire. Clayton lost three pounds more than his goal and says he’s never felt better.

“I feel so much better physically,” he said. “That aspect of the goal made me stick with it.”

Clayton played baseball at BYU 30 years ago. To celebrate his weight-loss victory, he plans to attend BYU’s game Tuesday — the first time he has been back since he graduated.
