SALT LAKE CITY - Former University of Utah guard Will Clyburn has decided to use his redshirt year and transfer to Iowa State.

"I have a good relationship with the coaching staff there. I like what they are doing with the program," Clyburn told ESPN 700 Radio. "After they fired Coach Boylen, I figured that I wanted to leave."

New Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak's efforts to keep Clyburn were to no avail as Will had his mind made up soon after the Utes fired Jim Boylen.

"I felt like (Coach K) was in a bad situation, because no matter what he said to me, I had my mind made up that I wanted to use my redshirt year and that I was going to leave the program to be closer to home," Clyburn said.

Clyburn becomes the third Runnin' Ute to leave the program since Boylen was let go, joining Preston Guiot and Antonio DiMaria.

J.J. O'Brien has also secured a release from the University, although he is still open to the possibility of returning to play for Utah.

Clyburn averaged 17 points and 8 rebounds for the Utes last season.
