Mexico City, Jan 14 (EFE).- Mexican painter Raul Anguiano, considered one of his country's most important contemporary artists, died here of a heart attack at the age of 90, the National Fine Arts Institute said.
A painter, muralist and engraver born Feb. 26, 1915, Anguiano in 1938 was co-founder of the Popular Graphics Workshop, which practiced graphic printmaking styles based on Mexico's folkloric traditions.
Anguiano, whose work drew on a wide range of subjects, from religious and political themes to everyday material, belonged to the so-called "Third Generation" of post-revolutionary painters.
He passed away late Friday. EFE
