PROVO -- The BYU Athletic Administration has signed a new five year contract with coach Dave Rose until the 2015-16 season.
Cougar Tracks:
Athletic Director Tom Holmoe was extremely upbeat and positive that they were able to sign Rose to a new contract. When asked if he ever feared losing Rose to another school, Holmoe said; "Let's just say I'm very happy that this day has come."
"Dave Rose is a great leader who produces talented players on the court, scholars in the classroom and fine examples in the community," Holmoe said. "He's established a basketball program at BYU that stands for excellence."
BYU said that they would not release the details of Rose's new contract, but President Cecil O. Samuelson was extremely complimentary of Rose.
"We believe he's the finest coach at any level," Samuelson said. "Whatever he is paid, he'll be underpaid economically."
With a 159-45 record, Rose has produced a six-year resume that is among the best in NCAA Division I basketball. His winning percentage of .779 is the fourth highest amongst active D-I coaches and the best in BYU history. Rose, who has the highest winning percentage in MWC history (.813), was named conference coach of the year in 2006, 2007 and 2011.
BYU Basketball will begin practice again today after taking a break since their loss to the Florida Gators.
