Freestyle Skiers Compete in World Cup This Weekend

Samantha Hayes ReportingThey perform some of the most eye-catching moves on the mountain and this weekend, Utah's local free-skiers are up against the best in the world as they compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.

They have overcome injuries…

Jillian Vogtli, U.S. Moguls: "The last games I was one foot in front of the other. I had knee reconstruction eight months prior to the games."

…uncertainties..

Nate Roberts, U.S. Moguls: "Every time you get in the gate, you don't know what is going to happen."

…and mental hang-ups…

Lacy Schnoor, U.S. Aerials: "First year on the team for the Olympics. Haven't qualified yet, but I’m trying."

The Olympic dream is now in sight.

Jillian Vogtli: "Since the age of 10, and I've always had a sense I'd go to two games."

Bump skier Jillian Vogtli is ready for her second trip to the Olympics.

Jillian Vogtli: "Every World Cup is a big deal, but this is one of the last three going into to qualify for the Olympics."

For Aerialist Ryan St. Onge, the Torino Games will be his first.

Ryan St. Onge, Aerialist: "I've always wanted to go to the Olympics. I remember watching the '92 Olympics, it was the first on I really watched and saw, and I knew right then that was what I wanted to train for."

Local favorite Nate Roberts has a World Championship under his belt, now he's after the gold in moguls.

Nate Roberts: "Ultimate goal is to be an Olympic champion. Day by day, competition by competition, I haven't made the team yet, but I like my chances."

Lacy Schnoor, Aerialist: "It's great to be home and having all my supporters out here cheering me."

Emily Cook is the top female aerialst; she barely missed the 2002 games after crashing just two weeks before. Jeret Peterson, a.k.a. "Speedy" is the top male aerialist. And Joe Pack is also well known, after winning a silver in Salt Lake. The World Cup Competition starts this weekend in Deer Valley.
