We lost out 14 year old Sheltie, Sadie, a couple of weeks ago and have been going through the "should we get another dog" discussions back and forth...and yesterday answered the question when we got an 8 week old Scottish Terrier.

You forget how having a puppy changes things. They're not trained. So we have to hold off on having the carpet cleaned. Also, they cry in the middle of the night. Our 18 year old, Melissa, was on the couch in the living room cuddling the puppy as I left this morning at a quarter to 4. "She was whining dad!" she said. "As soon as I picked her up, she stopped crying!" That dog's already training us.

I think I might have the duty tonight on the rotating puppy watch schedule. Good thing the couch is comfortable.

It is amazing, though, how having a little dog back in the house has given everybody a lift...even if it's only been one day.
