KAYSVILLE -- A man was fatally shot near a Kaysville motel Saturday night. Police are now looking for a person of interest who they say may be armed and dangerous.

According to Detective Dave Mullard with Kaysville police, dispatchers received reports of multiple shots being fired near the Far West Motel at 410 N. Main Street around 7:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a man dead and the shooter had already taken off.

Police have identified the person of interest as Joseph Nance. SWAT teams are at the scene, along with a Department of Public Safety helicopter equipped with infrared gear, aiding in the search.

Mullard says it's likely Nance is still in the area. He's described as heavyset with a brown beard, mustache and a shaved head.

"Hopefully we'll find him," he said.

Police have not said exactly where the shooting took place. The name of the victim has not been released.

Anyone with information is asked to call Davis County Dispatch at 801-451-4150.
