Basically, conservation-minded landscapers have ignored the law for years. They've ditched water-guzzling grass in favor of sunflowers, things that look like weeds, and others that look like they might wind up in a salad at a fancy restaurant.
The Salt Lake City Council is realizing this and aims to pass an amended ordinance tonight allowing xeriscaping over two-thirds of yards and side-yards.
The mayor may be pleased. He's been widely reported as a xeriscaping bootlegger.
