John Daley ReportingSearch and rescue crews here in Utah spent the afternoon looking for three missing snowboarders. They disappeared in a driving snow storm at the Brighton ski resort. This time, modern technology helped to find them.
The snowboarders went out of bounds from Brighton, looking for some fresh powder when they got lost. Fortunately, one of them had a cell phone and was able to call his father. Soon, search and rescue crews were on their way to find them.
With avalanche conditions very dangerous, the group says they now know they were lucky not to get into more trouble.
Snowboarder: “We definitely didn’t know what was coming. It was kind of a shock to us because we’ve been doing this before. I mean, we made a jump up there a couple days ago, but nothing compared to today.
Brett Kobernik, Avalanche Forecaster: “Avalanche conditions are becoming more dangerous in the back countries. As a matter of fact, we have issued an avalanche warning for the mountains of all northern Utah.”
