SALT LAKE CITY — Last fall Deseret Media Companies launched the initiative "Out in the Light: Women Uniting Against Pornography."
The initiative aims to educate, direct, and connect women who are in relationships where a pornography problem is present. The initiative has also helped bring about a unique alliance.

The music of LDS singer-songwriter Rachelle Call has touched thousands, especially those dealing with pornography addiction.
"I think it's really easy, you know, straight to the heart sometimes," Call said.
Written from personal experience, her music details the emotional roller coaster of reaching recovery.
“It is such a huge impact with women because you don’t have to say it, you don’t have to say, 'This is so awful,”'" Call explained. “I think they just hear that and know you understand, you got it.”
Last fall, she was interviewed for the Out in the Light documentary. After watching the program, she reached out via Facebook to another person featured in the program: Pastor Bernie Anderson with the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

“I think stories … that’s the common thread with all of us,” Anderson said. "We have stories of darkness and stories of how God has brought us to a certain level of light, and that connects us, and that bonds us.”
“We just connected. We just have a similar idea of how this looks,” Call said. “And if you focus on the shame and the hiding and all the pain, it just ... that gets bigger.”
The two eventually met and teamed up to plan “A Night of Recovery.”
The special program at the Wasatch Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church, on 2139 Foothill Drive in Salt Lake City, aims to help those trapped by unhealthy habits by sharing music and first-person stories of those who have conquered addictions.

“A Night of Recovery” is Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person or $10 per family at the door.
