(KSL News) Congressman Chris Cannon's push to develop Utah's oil shale resources was defeated in the U.S. House.
The House wants to prohibit using federal money to plan large-scale development of oil shale in western states. Cannon wants to develop an estimated two trillion barrels of oil in Utah and Wyoming.
In response to the House decision Cannon said, "Cowed by environmental lobby, the majority today voted to put the plug back into one of the most promising and viable new sources we have in the entire nation."
