NORTH SALT LAKE -- The smell of smoke woke three adults and alerted them that their house was burning.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. at a home in the 700 East block of Lacey Way in North Salt Lake. Firefighters say when they arrived they could see heavy smoke.

Deputy Chief Blaine Porter of the South Davis Metro Fire Department said, "They had to start up ventilation just to be able to get any kind of sight inside. Once they determined they had the fire out they backed out."

Authorities say the residents didn't hear the home's smoke alarms until everyone was outside of the house.

The fire was contained to a back bedroom. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
