SALT LAKE CITY — City crews will conduct a one-time Christmas tree pickup Jan. 3.

Salt Lake City residents must have their trees on curbsides by 7 a.m. that Monday.

Yard-waste pickup service will continue as scheduled throughout the year and will accommodate small and broken-down trees.

"Although the brown bins are the city's preferred method for Christmas tree disposal, I have heard public concern about the difficulty some residents may have cutting up their trees to place in the brown bins," Mayor Ralph Becker said. "Hopefully this one-time pickup will ease the transition toward a more sustainable yard-waste program which aims to create a smaller carbon footprint for Salt Lake City."

The pickup schedule could be adjusted in the event of a snow storm.

For more information, call the city's public services hotline at 801-535-7116.
