NORTHERN UTAH -- Following the latest winter storm that came through Utah Sunday and Monday, the avalanche danger is high in Utah's mountains.

Bruce Temper with the Utah Avalanche Center said the conditions are the most dangerous Utah has seen this year, so far.

"This storm looks like it's not going to let up, it's just going to keep coming," he said.

Heavy, wet snow blasted mountains along the Wasatch Front with the storm dumping two to three feet on ski resorts; Alta reported 22 inches of snow in the last 24 hours and Park City is reporting 20 inches.

The mountains in Provo got hit extra hard, and an extreme avalanche warning is in effect there.

"An extreme danger, that's pegged out, that's as high as you can go on the scale. That's how dangerous it is, very large avalanches, running long distances into the flats," Temper said. "These are unsurvivable avalanches and people should just avoid the back country."

The dangerous conditions result from wet snow piled on top of light, fluffy snow.
