(KSL News) A project to improve roads in Riverton turned into a cleanup project this afternoon when dozens of gallons of slurry spilled onto the street.

The slurry was in a 65,000 gallon trailer, waiting to be applied to coat a road. But hot temperatures caused one of the trailer stands to melt through the asphalt, and it tipped over.

Fire crews were able to stop the spill quickly, but not before 40 gallons covered the street and 20 gallons fell into the storm drains. The slurry was stopped before it got to the river.

Hazmat crews were called in. They say there's no public health threat.
