SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The president of the Motion Picture Association of Utah is warning the industry's workers that boosting tax incentives for those who film in the state will be a difficult fight.
The film industry wants lawmakers to increase the state's rebate for motion picture expenditures, from 20 percent to as much as 30 percent.
The larger incentive is intended to make the state more competitive with nearby New Mexico, which offers similar geography and a 25 percent rebate, among other incentives.
Don Schain told a film industry luncheon Wednesday that resistance to the larger incentives is already growing among some lawmakers and one conservative think tank.
Schain says the good news for film workers is that GOP Gov. Gary Herbert supports the larger incentives.
