SANDY - A woman says employees from a Carter's store in Sandy destroyed and threw away about a 100 items of children's clothing.
Chelsea Goss went to throw something away in the dumpster behind her work, and she discovered piles of children's clothing slashed and unusable.
"You can just see there's a little baby jacket that they took scissors to," said Gross. "And cut the whole back out so no one could wear it. And, it's just sad."
The place where she works shares a dumpster with 'Carter's babies and kids store' in Sandy. She says the sight of the piles of shredded infant clothing makes her feel emotional.
"I wasn't very fortunate growing up," Gross said. "And I can't imagine throwing clothes away. Throwing kid's clothes away, to throw baby clothes away, kids clothes. Kids are innocent victims of this bad economic situation."
KSL asked the Carter's manager what happened with the clothing in the dumpster. District manager, Diane Kovack, pointed out on the phone to KSL that the company donates millions to children's causes. That includes clothing donations.
Kovack says the clothing in the dumpster was declared not usable and that some had bodily fluids on them.
Kovack said workers at the store tried to have some donated items picked up, but couldn't get someone out to them. So, they simply destroyed them and threw them away.
