LAYTON, Utah (AP) -- Utah's Davis County Democratic Party has chosen a new vice chairman.

The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reports former state Senate candidate Charlie Parker of Layton will take over from Ryam Mellor, who stepped down because of family commitments.

Parker lost to Republican Sen. Jerry Stevenson of Layton in the November election.

The party also named Chris Williams to lead a committee concerning media communications.

Williams is a spokesman for Davis School District. He failed in a November challenge of Republican Rep. Curt Oda of Clearfield.
