LAYTON -- The South Layton Interchange on I-15 opened Saturday morning with celebration in the streets. From a parade to Christmas tree lighting, Layton residents and business owners celebrated the end of construction and the opening of the interchange.

The holiday season is just around the corner, so this couldn't have happened at a better time.

"During Christmas time, it gridlocks bad on Hill Field Road," said Layton City Mayor Steve Curtis, "and so this will help take some of that congestion and bring it this way."

Local business owners say they have great hopes that people will shop locally because of the accessibility the new interchange offers.

Business owner Annie Whittaker said, "Well, I think it just shows people that we're open, that we're here, that we are ready for business. We've kind of been through this construction and held on, and now we have nice roadway for people to get to us and shop locally."
