What U.S. city has the coldest temps for their highs during the summer months?

Ok, we'll talk about major metro areas first since people have heard of them. Clearly, anything in Alaska is going to be cooler in the summer so we'll deal with the lower 48.

To find the lowest summer temperatures there's a couple of things you can do. Go up in elevation, go north, or go to the seacoast.

For cities you've actually heard of, the coolest summertime temperatures are likely the coast of CA. The pacific ocean stays very cold, that contributes to the cool marine air. Average highs in July in Monterey, CA are 68 degrees with Eureka coming in at 61. Martha's Vineyard in MA has average highs around 79 in July and Caribou Maine comes in at 76.

Northbound, head to Duluth MN for some cool July air with highs around 76. Or how about Marquette Michigan on the upper peninsula, July highs are about 76 degrees there as well.

You can look up all sorts of cities on the USA Today climate page, it's fantastic.
