(KSL News) A quick response by firefighters to an Salt Lake City apartment fire may have saved hundreds of people from losing their homes.

Fire broke out in a basement apartment near 1300 South Edison Street. The fire started around 2:00 this afternoon. Firefighters were able to contain the flames in one room.
No one was in the apartment at the time, but around 30 people from surrounding units were evacuated.

Investigators are looking into what caused the fire.
