ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- City officials are buying land and developing a financial plan to build a new municipal airport that's scheduled to open in 2011.

The new airport on the southeast side of town will be about 1,500 acres. The city owns about 450 acres at the site. Marc Mortensen, assistant to the city manager, says some offers have been made to purchase properties. He says the city council is also expected to be presented with a resolution to condemn other properties at the site.

This summer, an architectural firm will hold public hearings to get feedback about what the terminal should look like.

Construction on the airport should begin in the fall or next spring, and the financial plan is expected to be finished in August.
