Marc Giauque, KSL Newsradio Just in time for high school graduations, local law enforcement agencies are stepping up their efforts in the canyons.

To a few it seems like a right of passage to celebrate a graduation with a lot of friends and some kegs up the canyon. But Sheriff's Lt. Robby Russo says it actually doesn't happen as often as it used to.

Russo says, "The PTAs have really stepped up and helped us with doing the alternative party solutions and create an atmosphere where the kids aren't on the road drinking."

Still, authorities know there are, and will be, some activities. That's why they're setting up roadblocks in specific areas this weekend. They'll be checking for underage drinking, DUI and other violations as part of the county's annual tradition.
