(NBC Newschannel) When it comes to waiting in checkout lines, how long is too long? A Texas company found the answer, and the secret to never wasting another minute!

MARC Research in Irving was part of a recent study on the problem. Researchers found that more than a few minutes in line and shopper satisfaction plummets.

The amount of time people are willing to wait in a checkout line is not always the same. Researchers found it often depends on what kind of store you're in. "In club stores they're willing to wait longer. So a Sam's or a Costco, they're going to wait longer," says Tony Amador of MARC Research.

The study also revealed "when" lines are shortest. In general Wednesdays are your best bet.

You should hit office supply stores in the morning, never at lunch, and consumer electronics stores on weekdays, never evenings or weekends if you can avoid them. "Stores have to make sure that they have enough people, enough registers open to keep those lines short enough," adds Amador. If they don't, shoppers are not shy about sending a message.

When it comes to waiting lines, the study also found that women are more patient than men.
