The 45:01 of possession time v. SDSU was the most in any one game of the Bronco Mendenhall era. The previous high was 38:30 v. Wyoming in 2005.

BYU ran 85 plays v. SDSU; two of the three highest play totals in the Bronco era have come v. SDSU (94 @ Tulsa '07, 91 @ SDSU '09, 85 v. SDSU '10).

For the first time in 12 games, BYU did not have a single offensive "three-and-out" v. SDSU. BYU forced five "three-and-outs" v. the Aztecs; highest total since forcing five in the Oklahoma game of 2009.

BYU has yet to score on a drive of 80 yards or longer. Last year, BYU scored on 15 such drives.

BYU is 7th nationally in kickoff return yardage allowed (17.3 yards per return on 10 returns), and 26th in punt return yardage allowed (4.8 yards per return on eight returns). TCU is 15th in kickoff return yardage gained, and 11th in punt return yardage.

In the Bronco era, BYU is now 44-4 (91.7%) when leading at the half, and 44-1 (97.8%) when leading after three quarters (v. TCU, 2005; led 34-23 after 3, lost 51-50 in OT).

BYU has now won 46 consecutive games when ahead or tied after three quarters.

BYU has yet to commit a second-half turnover this season.

Turnovers and Turnover Margin v. TCU:

2005: 3, -3, L 51-50

2006: 0, +2, W 31-17

2007: 2, -1, W 27-22

2008: 4, -3, L 32-7

2009: 2, -2, L 38-7

Five year total: 11 turnovers, -7 margin

BYU has yet to have a player with a 100-yard receiving game in 2010. The last time BYU went an entire season without a 100-yard receiving game was 1972.

BYU has not thrown a TD pass in three consecutive games.

BYU has 14 false starts in six games. In 2007, 22% of all BYU penalties were false starts. In 2008, that number was 20%. In 2009, that number was 22%. In 2010 false starts account for 47% of all BYU infractions. Against SDSU, BYU's only penalties were five false starts.

BYU had exactly 20 false starts in 2007, 2008 and 2009. BYU is on pace for 30 false starts in 2010.

Pound it on the ground: against SDSU, BYU was 12/12 converting 3rd-and-5 or shorter, with ten of the conversions coming on run plays. BYU was 7/7 running on 3rd-and-3 or shorter. On the season, Bryan Kariya is 6/7 when rushing on 3rd-and-3 or shorter.

Interestingly, while BYU was 12/12 on 3rd-and-5 or shorter, and 0/7 on 3rd-and-6 or longer.

Overall, BYU is 2/21 on 3rd-and-10 or longer. Opponents are only 4/21.

More third down stats...

On the season, BYU has converted 68% of rushing third down attempts, 28% of passing third down attempts.

BYU has converted 6/37 (16%) attempts when passing on 3rd-and-6 or longer. Last year, BYU was 35/69 (51%). Much of the difficulty stems from the lack of tight end involvement. In 2009, on 3rd-and-6 or longer, TEs converted 16 passing 3rd down attempts (24 targets). In 2010, TEs have converted zero such attempts (6 targets).

Compared to 2009, BYU is better converting rushing 3rd down attempts (68% '10; 55% '09), but half as good on pass att (28% '10; 56% '09).

Why is BYU's 3rd down rushing improved? 2010: 7.5 attempts/game of 3rd-and-4 or shorter. 2009: 4.7 attempts/game of 3rd-and-4 or shorter.

In 2009, BYU's average 3rd down distance was 3rd-and-7.2 yards to go for a first down. In 2010, the average is 3rd-and-6.0 yards to go.

TCU is 1st nationally in 3rd down defense, allowing 22.7% of third downs to be converted. SDSU was ranked 4th (25%) before BYU went 12/19; Aztecs now 33rd.

J.J. DiLuigi (14) and Kariya (7) have 21 of BYU's 40 third down conversions.

BYU has gone eight consecutive games under 300 yds in passing.

The 271 rushing yards v. SDSU were the most since291 yds @ UNLV in 2009. The 62 rush attempts v. SDSU were the most since 63 @ Utah in 1996.

BYU beat SDSU despite being -1 in the TO margin. In the Bronco era, BYU is now 14-14 when "minus"; 37-5 when "even" or "plus."
