SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Centerville police officer was arrested over the weekend, accused of assaulting his wife and her 5-year-old child.
Layton police say the officer also cut telephone lines in the home so they couldn't call for help.
Police responded to the home of Sgt. John Spencer Saturday. They say the officer was booked on suspicion of aggravated assault and aggravated child abuse. His wife's daughter was treated at Primary Children's Medical Center.
The officer has since been released on bail and is on administrative leave pending an investigation. He is a 16-year veteran of the department.
