PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Consol Energy Inc. says it will close a coal mine near Washington, Pa., and idle a mine in Utah.

Consol announced it would idle its Emery Mine near Price, Utah, and furlough the approximately 170 workers there starting in December. Company officials say the coal mine has about 250,000 tons of coal on hand that have not been sold.

The company said it does not know when the mine will reopen.

Sixty employees at its Mine 84 in southwestern Pennsylvania will be laid off when the mine closes starting on Dec. 1. Consol announced the closing Friday and said it was not making enough money to keep it open.
