(KSL News) A woman was seriously injured in an apparent suicide attempt that disrupted traffic through Big Cottonwood Canyon.
The 61-year-old woman was near her car, only a few hundred yards up the canyon. She had a shotgun wound to her head, but she's still alive. She was flown to the hospital in serious condition.
Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office Lt. Robby Russo says, "We don't know exactly what occurred here, but sometimes people have a change of heart. They realize they were hurt badly and want help."
Investigators found a handgun near the stream.
