SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah Jazz VP Kevin O'Connor says injured center Mehmet Okur will not be ready for the beginning of the regular season, but will be re-evaluated during the preseason in mid-October.

"The worst thing to do is for guys to come in and out of lineups," O'Connor said. "But by the same token, we want him to be ready to go on the length that he feels comfortable with. This is a weekly thing, not a daily thing."

Okur is still in rehab from the surgery to repair an Achilles tendon that he tore in last season's playoffs against Denver.

O'Connor also talks about the new Jazz big man, Al Jefferson, adjusting to his new home.

"He's got an infectious kind of personality. I think he feels good about the opportunity. He feels a little pressure, which is great for him to accept, trying to understand that he's got to be a big part of helping this team win."

The Jazz open camp Monday, September 20 and begin its preseason schedule October 7 against the Portland Trailblazers at home.

The regular season kicks off Wednesday October 27 in Denver against the Nuggets.
