LAYTON -- Layton police are investigating the deaths of two young children after responding to a welfare check before 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Police responded to a home near North and 3200 East after receiving a call to check on the family living there. When officers arrived, they found a 7-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy unresponsive in a bedroom.
When medical personnel were called to the scene, they pronounced the children dead.
The children's mother was inside the home at the time. Police are interviewing her as well as the children's father, who apparently made the call to police from a neighbor's home at 6:45 p.m.
The names of the children and their parents have not been released.
