I’ve covered stories on the Japanese beetle infestation in Orem several times. And although the little creatures look pretty neat, they have a shiny metallic green and bronze shell, what they leave behind apparently is pretty bad.
Today an emergency infestation declaration was issued which basically means the state can spray any lawn in the affected area it needs to eradicate the beetles. From my past stories where I’ve spoken to residents strongly opposing the spraying I can tell this isn’t going to go over well with a few families.
But here’s the problem. If you have three homes and you spray in only two of the yards. The beetles go live in the one unsprayed lawn for a time and then spread back out again. So for everyone going through the beetle problem…good luck and I feel for you.
My family has always raised a large garden and I know giving up your green thumb for up to three years because of a chemical treatment to kill beetles is not a fun prospect.
