Randall Jeppesen, KSL NewsradioAn Orem man is in jail after allegedly sexually abusing his stepdaughter for nearly seven years.

Police arrested the suspect after the 16-year-old girl told religious leaders and her mother about the alleged abuse. Therapist Margo Vick from I-Sat in Provo says in a case like this, the child often feels responsible. It's vital they learn the abuse wasn't their fault. She says, "Getting to place the blame where it belongs. Most of your victims feel they were to blame some how."

Court documents say the girl said her stepfather started sexually abusing her at age nine.

The suspect turned himself in after being contacted by police.

Police have charged him with multiple counts of rape and sexual abuse of a child.
