UTAH COUNTY -- Watch out and be prepared for slow traffic if you're heading through Utah County Saturday afternoon.

Saturday is BYU's first home football game. On top of game-day traffic, expect extra cars on the road for the holiday weekend. With the UDOT Core Construction Project going on and the added holiday traffic, officials say you could be delayed by an extra hour to and from the game.

Before and after the game, text ‘I-15' to 53535 and you'll get a game-traffic update back.

"You won't see any [construction] crews out. You will see traffic restrictions that have been in place will remain in place. We can't take those on and off over the weekend," said UDOT spokesman Scott Thompson. "We just encourage people to be patient and be safe. We still have a restricted speed limit through that construction zone of 55 miles per hour."

All the freeway exits leading into the area will be open but there are temporary on- and off-ramps at the Provo Center Street exit.

"With the BYU game, first game of the season, we are expecting more traffic to and from Provo," said UDOT spokesperson Tania Mashburn.

Thompson says people should take their normal routes, but just expect to take a little more time.

Fans are already planning ahead. Trace Wilkinson said, "I'm really not excited about it. I drive down there a lot to see friends, and it's not a fun drive. Throwing in game traffic, it's going to be awful."

UDOT will also have employees in the Orem and Provo traffic centers so they can time the surface street lights to help get traffic moving to and from LaVell Edwards Stadium.

They're also offering a special service to fans. Text ‘I-15' to 53535 and you'll get a game-traffic update back.

KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM and 1160 AM will also have detailed traffic updates before and after the BYU football game.
