KSL hopes Real Salt Lake succeeds. We really do!

We hope the stadium actually gets built! We hope the franchise puts Utah on the map as an international center for the world's most popular game. We hope the team starts winning games!

However, all of the controversy surrounding Real isn't making the task any easier. In fact, in terms of positive PR and widespread community support for the team, Real Salt Lake owner Dave Checketts and his organization have a veritable mountain to climb!

KSL understands the need for a soccer-specific stadium and we think what's been settled on in Sandy will meet the bill. The level of public funding is within reason. However, the way it came to be amidst shadowy political maneuverings has left skeptical citizens questioning the process and the result.

More recently is the question of Real's $7.5 million contribution toward the development of a soccer complex in Salt Lake City. Again, what went on during backroom negotiations has citizens wondering who actually promised what, and when, and why.

Dave Checketts' recent announcement that the money will be given without asking for anything in return should help counter some of the negative feelings that have surfaced. As he follows through on his promise, KSL hopes broader community acceptance of the beleaguered franchise will be the result.
