Take for example the chair in the picture. Clearly nothing happened there, as the sign would make you believe. But isn't that a story in itself? Who would put a sign there? What's the deal with that! And aren't YOU intrigued by the picture!

Not that I'd make a story a Seinfeld episode. You just couldn't do it justice. However, there are nothing stories in the news every day. They're called filler. I'm just suggesting being more overt and entertaining on the filler stories.

Who wouldn't want to listen to a story where the anchor lead-in is: "And on a day when there was nothing else, KSL Newsradio's Andrew Adams filed this." That has "instant classic" written all over it.

Getting the story itself could be as simple as coming up with man-on-the-street potpourri. Or pot luck.

Here's a possible script ...

Anchor: And on a day when there was nothing else, KSL Newsradio's Andrew Adams filed this ...

---

Reporter to Phil: "So what's going on?"

Phil: "Nothing."

... Could be the most boring day ever on the streets of Salt Lake City ...

Larry: "Less than nothing is happening."

Svetlana: "This is insane. I think I'm going to die."

The people want news ... but it ain't happenin'. So ... we asked people what was news to them."

Gil: "My great uncle Roy died two weeks ago."

Reporter to Gil: "Suspicious?"

"No. He had it comin.'"

Apparently ... we had a slow news day comin.' We're fighting through it. Andrew Adams, KSL Newsradio ... 102.7 FM and 1160 AM.

See, you really can make something out of nothing -- whether a chair in a corner with a sign, or a story about nothing. Now for convincing those editors ...
