(KSL News) A husband says his wife told him she had a surprise for him. But police say that surprise was an attack with a hammer.

Lt. Paul Jaroscak of the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office said, "In a 30-year career, I've heard about hammers being used in an assault, but it's been a long time."

Police say Amy Ricks took her husband Joel into the basement of their in-laws' condo after a date. Then she blindfolded him and hit him six times with a hammer.

Joel escaped and called 911. Amy also left the condo and called police. After speaking with both people, police arrested Amy Ricks for aggravated assault. She has since been released from jail.

The District Attorney will now decide if charges will be filed.
