SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Rural folks in Utah won't get a break on their natural gas bills.
The Utah Public Service Commission rejected a proposal yesterday to spread the higher cost of rural gas service among most of Utah's households.
The commission says it wasn't fair to charge more than 800,000 Utah households and businesses an extra 19-cents a month to help pay for rural gas lines extended years ago.
The decision means people in southern Utah won't get relief from rates that are up to $30 a month higher than for urban folks.
About 8,600 rural customers have gotten hit with the higher rates for about a decade.
