(Photo courtesy WOOD TV 8)CALEDONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Two Utahns were killed Friday when their car was hit by an SUV in Caledonia Township, Michigan.
Local law enforcement authorities say 71-year-old Robert Schimming and 71-year-old Shirliann Schimming's car was broadsided by a Ford Expedition as it pulled out of Woodland Forest Private Dr. onto 84th Street.
Witnesses say the impact of the collision caused the Expedition to burst into flames. The two people inside, both teenagers, were able to get out safely.
Police say 53-year-old Sindi King was also killed in the accident. Her 8-month-old granddaughter, whom Robert and Shirliann had traveled to Michigan to see for the first time, was injured.
The baby was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Neither of her parents were involved in the accident.
