BILOXI, Miss., Sep 27, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) -- First lady Laura Bush was in Biloxi, Miss., Tuesday for an ABC TV "Extreme Makeover" episode about recovery efforts from Hurricane Katrina.
A crowd assembled at the Biloxi Community Center applauded as Bush entered the building with "Extreme Makeover" star Preston Sharp.
Bush and Sharp then spent about an hour handing out clothing and goods donated by Sears to hurricane survivors who lost their homes and belongings in the storm. The episode with the first lady in it is scheduled to air in December.
Bush told reporters outside the center she was encouraged by recovery efforts she had witnessed so far.
"This is what it's going to take," she said. "It's going to take partnerships between government and private groups."
Bush also stopped by to hand out lunches at a Salvation Army Disaster Recovery Center before heading back to Washington
The events were reported by journalists in a White House press pool.
